At Ray Lodge Primary school we use the Oxford Reading tree scheme to support our children in developing their reading skills. The books are banded according to their level of difficulty, providing children with a challenging reading experience which also allows them to use their developing phonic and whole word knowledge to read independently.
The Oxford Reading tree scheme comprises of a mixture of Fiction, Non-fiction and Traditional tales, which allows children to experience a variety of texts.
The fiction texts are set in a mixture of familiar and fantasy settings and many of the characters appear across the different levels of the books so the children become familiar with them.
Non-fiction texts are relevant to other areas of the curriculum and allow the children to ask questions and find the answers to them.
If you would like any more information about our school reading scheme, please contact the your child's class teacher or contact the school office and they will make an appointment to meet with the English subject leader.
